What is England's best XI right now?

What is England's best starting XI right now? By Jonny Bray What is there left to say?  England are class. A common criticism of the qualifying for World Cups and European Championships is that the quality of some opponents is so poor that it's hard to send fans of the Three Lions home happy. But a 10-0 win against San Marino shows that England aren't just better than these teams now. A 10-0 win shows they're now able to put these sides to bed without their dinner. It was like watching a slow-motion car crash as England showed the best of what they can offer right now, while also providing a glimpse of the future. But what is the strongest side available to Gareth Southgate, as things stand? Goalkeeper   Despite an increase in competition, goalkeeper is still probably England's weakest position. There  are four or five options to fill the spot, each as slightly above average as the next. The first choice as things stand must be Jordan Pickford, whose for...

The Sancho/Greenwood conundrum

After a difficult start to the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a Sancho/Greenwood conundrum By Oli Dickson Jefford When Jadon Sancho signed for Manchester United this summer, it ended a transfer saga that had dragged on for two seasons. After impressing at Borussia Dortmund, the England international was expected to hit the ground running at Old Trafford as Man Utd looked to surge into title contention. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, that hasn’t quite been the case. They currently sit seventh in the League table - eight points off leaders Chelsea - with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under pressure. This is not an incendiary story baiting people into a reaction. It’s a piece about planning transfers and using players in their best positions. Sancho’s start to life at Old Trafford has been fairly tame. And while he remains an immensely talented player, there doesn’t seem to be an immediate place for the England winger to find his feet in Manchester. It leads us to ask…do Manchester United already have a Jadon Sancho problem? Round peg, square hole Anyone who has watched a minute of Sancho’s Dortmund highlight reel can see he’s a player of supreme ability. Primarily stationed on the right hand side, his dazzling ability on the ball prompted the United hierarchy to sanction a deal thought to be in the region of £73m. However, since his arrival at Old Trafford, the 21-year-old has yet to finish a Premier League game, or even regist...
