Who could Tyson Fury fight after Deontay Wilder?

By Oscar Maung-Haley

After overcoming Deontay Wilder in the third bout of their fighting trilogy, Tyson Fury doesn’t have an obvious match-up on the cards.

We take a look at who the Gypsy King could take on next.

Anthony Joshua

It safe to say that Anthony Joshua’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk certainly rattled a few cages.

For one, it altered a timeline that seems to be something out of a Hollywood movie.

Joshua was supposed to defeat Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, setting up a heavyweight clash with Fury.

However, the script was thrown out of the window when Usyk bested Joshua, meaning a rematch is now set-up for spring 2022.

Should Joshua defeat Usyk in their springtime showdown, then it could set things up nicely for a bout against Fury in the battle of the British heavyweights that almost everyone wants to see.

Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk defeating Joshua really threw a cat amongst the pigeons in the heavyweight division.

For one, it locked in Joshua for a rematch, which alters multiple timelines and prospective fights for the Gypsy King.

Holding the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, Usyk v Fury would be an interesting prospect, especially if he manages to beat Joshua again in their rematch, setting up a tremendous fight.

Dillian Whyte

Out of all the heavyweight’s around, Dillian Whyte makes the most sense for Fury to face off against next.

The World Boxing Council had previously ruled that the winner of Fury/Wilder would have 30 days to arrange a fight against Usyk.

However, with Joshua triggering a rematch clause against Usyk that would see them fight in spring 2022, that means Fury would have to fight the winner of Whyte v Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin.

Whyte is said to be keen to face Fury and has certainly not minced his words in the past about the prospect of a fight.

However, that was before he pulled out of a fight against Wallin just this week, with some reports suggesting this could be to arrange a bout with Fury, who has no obvious fight on the cards as of yet.

Deontay Wilder

Round 4 anyone?

While Deontay Wilder hasn’t confirmed his desire to fight Fury again, his manager reckons he’d certainly be open to another bout against the Gypsy King.

"It’s not on the drawing board now, but he would love to get Fury back again,” Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel told the Sun.

"I don’t think people want to see that right now, some of the other fights have to find their way through and then that can be a possibility.

"Because at the end of the day, aside from the winner from the Usyk and Joshua fight, there aren’t many big fights for Fury either."
