Five players who have disappointed this season
Five players who have disappointed this season
It has been one of the best Premier League seasons in living memory.
However, despite several stars putting in an early bid for the title of player of the year, many big-name talents have struggled to live up to their usual standards.
So here are five players who have disappointed so far this season.
Harry Kane
Where else can you start?
Is there a player in world football who has seen a more considerable drop off over the summer than Harry Kane?
Kane has struggled to come anywhere close to his usual standard despite ripping it up on the international scene.
To be fair to the man, it’s not like Tottenham have had a great season,.
Spurs have been absolutely appalling all season, and that’s far more to do with their shocking defence and poorly put together midfield.
But as the leader, captain and star player, Spurs fans have come to expect more from Kane.
The sad reality is that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kane return to his best form as soon as he gets out of North London.
Jesse Lingard
After a stunning second half of the season last year with West Ham, it really looked like this would be the season where we see the best of Jesse Lingard.
Unfortunately, he has been given very few chances at Old Trafford.
He has scored two club goals, more than his teammate Jadon Sancho, but it’s clear that football fans across the country wanted to see Lingard step into the limelight this season.
You shouldn’t begrudge him for staying last summer, but at 28-years-old it’s time for him to leave so he can highlight just how good a player he really is.
Ibrahima Konaté
Ibrahima Konaté arrived at Anfield with a big reputation, many saying that they’d signed the better of the two RB Leipzig defenders who left the German club last season, the other being Dayot Upamecano of Bayern Munich.
However, the 23-year-old has struggled to break into a very strong Liverpool defence.
He’s only made four league appearances, which is understandable at his young age, but this is a player who has had four seasons of experience in Germany.
The £36 million price tag hasn’t helped him, but there’s still time for the French defender to come good at Liverpool.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
It’s been a difficult season for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The £50 million defender has struggled to take the next step at Manchester United and is now facing criticism from all sides.
Having two players on this list is a testament to how disappointing United’s season has been.
But the right-back is probably the player whose stock has fallen the lowest, with many fans calling for him to be sold.
This will, of course, be music to the ears of fans of Crystal Palace, who would welcome the prodigy back to south London with open arms.
Leon Bailey
Leon Bailey arrived at Aston Villa with a big reputation.
Many expected him to be a great part of an outstanding Villa team this season.
But, despite impressing in glimpses, the Jamaican international has struggled to make par in most of his appearances so far this season.
With Steven Gerrard now at the helm, this could be a new beginning for the winger.
