Premier League signings of the season
Premier League signings of the season
By Tom Masters
The Premier League season is well under way now, and after a bumper summer of transfers, plenty of new signings have made a mark.
With the addition to the Premier League of 105 players last summer, there are plenty of candidates to choose from for best signing of the season.
Some of the highest profile transfers include the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to Manchester United, Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea and Jack Grealish to Manchester City, but there have been plenty of other signings that have caught the eye in place of some of the more expensive ones who have suffered from injuries or struggled early on.
After eleven matches of the Premier League season, it is time to analyse who the best signings are from last summer.
Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)
The England goalkeeper joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in the summer for a reported £30m.
It seemed that he would be in competition with German goalkeeper Bernd Leno for the Arsenal starting jersey, but successive excellent performances from Ramsdale have seen him make the Arsenal goalkeeping jersey his own.
His performances have been crucial to Arsenal’s turn in fortunes, with the save made in the 2-0 win at Leicester City already a likely winner of save of the season.
Tino Livramento (Southampton)
Livramento came in as a relative unknown into the Southampton set-up this summer from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.
The wing back has been exceptional for the Saints, starting in every Premier league match at right back.
His performances at St. Mary’s have been extremely notable, and he has been just as good at both ends of the field.
The 18-year-old has contributed with an assist and a goal in 11 matches, whilst also being a part of a Saints defence who have kept five clean sheets so far this season.
Maxwel Cornet (Burnley)
Burnley have struggled to hit the ground running at the start of this season, but the Ivorian defender/winger has been a real masterstroke signing by Sean Dyche and his coaching staff.
Since coming in later on in the transfer window, Cornet has been in six matches and his impact has been incredible.
Since joining from Lyon, Cornet has scored four goals in just five starts, including both goals against Southampton and an incredible goal in the 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Gallagher joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer, and Palace have benefitted immensely from his arrival.
After not being able to play against Chelsea in the opening game of the season due to the clause in his loan deal, Gallagher has played 10 matches for Palace this season.
In those appearances he has managed a staggering four goals and four assists and has been a key part of Palace’s rise up the table under Patrick Vieira.
Hee-Chan Hwang (Wolves)
The South Korean forward joined in the summer from RB Leipzig late in the summer transfer window and proved to be an immediate hit.
In his eight appearances this season, he has bagged four goals, whilst he has been unlucky not to have hit the net more times.
Those goals have been vital to Wolves’ turnaround this season, after they lost their opening three matches of the season, with Hwang’s goals coming in the 2-0 win over Watford on debut, a brace in the 2-1 win over Newcastle and a goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
