Three all-British boxing fights we'd love to see
After Joshua was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk, and Fury defeated Deontay Wilder for a second time, both of Britain’s biggest heavyweight boxers are planning on their next fight.
Here are three fights that everyone would like to see.
1. Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury
THE fight that everyone wants to see in the world of boxing, with an agreement between the two for a fight decided before Wilder decided he wanted to have a third go at Fury.
Britain’s two best heavyweight fighters divide the world of boxing in a similar way to Ronaldo and Messi in the world of football now. Who is better? Well in the words of Harry Hill – there’s only one way to find out – fight!
Fury seems destined to fight Dillian Whyte next, whilst AJ is set to fight Usyk in a rematch of the first fight, which Usyk won on points.
But following those two fights, the result that everyone is hoping for is that the two British heavyweights will finally take each other on.
The location of the fight is something else that boxing fans are particularly focused on, with the cancelled fight due to take place in Saudi Arabia.
The question is, who would win?
Fury would emerge as the favourite for this fight, as the more skilful boxer, but Joshua may relish the underdog title and with nothing to lose after the Usyk defeat, perhaps Joshua may just spring a surprise on Fury.
2. Joe Joyce v Derek Chisora
Joyce is unbeaten so far in his career, winning all 13 fights, 12 by knockout, and after defeating both fellow Brit Daniel Dubois and Frenchman Carlos Takam in his two most recent fights, where is next for Joyce?
A fight against fellow Brit Chisora is certainly one that would excite British boxing fans.
Chisora has had a much longer career than Joyce, with Chisora fighting 43 times, losing to New Zealander Joseph Parker and Usyk in his two most recent fights.
Chisora will be 38 in December and although Joyce has recently turned 36 himself, he has fought far fewer times than the Zimbabwean-born Chisora.
A fight between the two British heavyweights would certainly whet the boxing world’s appetite, with the intrigue as to whether Chisora may be able to resurrect his career or if Joyce can take his unbeaten run to 14 wins.
3. Billy Joe Saunders v Chris Eubank Jr
The pair have fought before, with Saunders defeating Eubank Jr in 12 rounds in the 2014 bout.
Saunders lost his unbeaten record in his most recent fight, to take his record to 30-1, with Mexican Canelo Alvarez breaking Saunders’ eye socket in their fight in May.
Eubank Jr himself has only lost one other fight than the Saunders loss, losing to another fellow Brit George Groves in 2018 with his record now at 31-2.
This is a fight that all Brits would love to see, with Eubank Jr looking to get revenge over the man who inflicted his first defeat on him, and Saunders looking to recover from his first defeat against Canelo.
Whilst this fight might not have the same hype around it as the Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury fight, it is one that is deserving of its own excitement, as both Saunders and Eubank have excellent records and are looking to claim a major scalp.
