Dream boxing fights that could take place in 2022
There has been widespread boxing drama across the whole of 2021 but which eye-catching match-ups can fight fans start dreaming about next year?
We have had a year in which YouTube boxing exploded, Jake Paul came to the fore and his brother Logan incredibly stepped into the ring with all-time great Floyd Mayweather.
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury were both in action too, so which standout bouts can supporters eagerly await from January onwards?
Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua
We thought this colossal battle of the Brits was nailed on this year.
It looked like everything was virtually signed, sealed and delivered in the summer, however, Deontay Wilder’s legal right to a trilogy fight with Tyson Fury scuppered things.
The Gypsy King duly took care of the Bronze Bomber in sensational style, knocking out his American foe in the 11th round.
Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua was thoroughly outboxed by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in the fight he took in the interim.
Again, that result put the AJ-Fury clash on the back-burner and there’s now talk Joshua could step aside to see Fury take on Usyk and aim to unify the heavyweight division.
Surely, there’s time in 2022 for that fight to happen as well as the one we have all been waiting for.
Canelo Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin III
Talking of trilogy fights, a third encounter between the Mexican and GGG would certainly whet the appetite.
The first bout was a split draw in 2017 which many thought should have gone the way of the Kazakh.
Another tight tussle followed in 2018 but this time Canelo got the decision.
The fighters have been on slightly different journeys since, but it’s always a match-up bubbling under the surface.
It is one of those rare clashes that would ignite the interest of even the most casual boxing fan.
Jake Paul v Logan Paul
From YouTubers to dominate players in the fight game, the Paul brothers have taken the scene by storm.
While Jake continues to show some actual boxing ability - his latest KO of Tyron Woodley suggesting he certainly packs a punch - Logan is yet to win a professional fight.
Logan shared a ring with Floyd Mayweather and did not embarrass himself, but you feel the older Paul brother is only in the fight game for clout and riches rather than a burning desire to win fights and belts.
But what could possibly get the juices flowing more than a brother v brother battle?
They have teased each other in the past about getting it on and also backed away from the idea. So, maybe 2022 is the year to settle any family disputes with the gloves on.
